On November 12, 2024, a delegation from the Whitireia Community Polytechnic (Whitireia) and Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) of Te Pūkenga-New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (Te Pūkenga), visited HUHST. The delegation consisted of Mr. Bryan Read (Head of International, Innovation and Industry Engagement), Mr. Shaun Li (Senior Advisor on International Strategy), and Ms. Brenda Saris (Programme Manager for Creative and Performing Arts). They were received by Mr. Sheng Mingke, Deputy Secretary of HUHST Committee of CPC and President of HUHST, at the No. 1 Conference Room of Mingde Building.

President Sheng extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He stated that HUHST adheres to the principles of openness, innovation, and excellence, and that this exchange offers a valuable opportunity for mutual learning and exploring the future of education. He expressed hope that both sides would seize this opportunity to integrate their respective strengths in academic disciplines, collaborate on applied talent cultivation, establish a regular mechanism for academic exchanges and faculty/student visits, and work together to foster a mutually beneficial relationship.

Mr. Bryan Read expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and fully supported President Sheng’s proposal for cooperation. He stated that Whitireia and WelTec are very supportive of multifaceted cooperation with HUHST, including joint talent cultivation, joint research, and cooperative education programs. He looked forward to both universities achieving fruitful results in their cooperation and contributing to the educational and cultural exchange between China and New Zealand.

During the meeting, the two sides introduced their history, talent cultivation strategies, and the development of academic disciplines. They focused on exploring potential cooperation in fields such as engineering, information technology, and the arts, and exchanged views on related issues of mutual concern, reaching a preliminary agreement. At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding.

Relevant leaders and personnel from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, the School of Information, and the School of Music and Dance also attended the meeting.
